Mister Rogers
An American icon has died today. Mister Rogers, the strange man that has been influencing kids in your neighborhood since 1968. I never really was a fan of his show, actually my parents wouldn't let me watch it because it was too creepy, and besides, it was stupid. But that is besides the point. Just because I didn't watch the show, or particularly like Mister Rogers, it doesn't change the fact that his television show had an impact on children.
His show, "Mister Roger's Neighborhood" aired from 1968 to December 2001, that is one of the longest running shows in television history, and I am surprised that a show as "wholesome" as that survived in today's decadent world. I say "wholesome" because I never watched it and many people have claimed that there are extreme sexual undertones to what Mister Roger's talks about ("I get all soapy and I play with my hose" as he was found often saying, okay he said it once, but that still makes my skin crawl)
But why was this gentle man, loved by many children, so creepy to others? Let us delve into Mister Roger's World:
1. He was an ordained Presbyterian Minister. Enough said on that topic.
2. He started his career in television doing puppet voices. Holy crap, puppets scare the shit out of me. Again, enough said.
3. He believed that television should be used as a tool of God to enhance the human spirit. Too bad for him television is the most effective of Satan's tools. I try to make sure to worship... err i mean watch, television at least every day.
4. He wore a red sweater every episode. That's not too bad seeing as red is the color of love. But it is also the color of blood.
5. Honestly... look at the picture at the bottom. Look at those shifty eyes, doesn't that creep you out just a little... what is he planning?
Enough joking around though. This is a tribute to Mr. Roger's. It is raining today, the heavens are crying for him. But I like rain... and as Mr. Roger's would say:
"It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood."
