Daniel Sexsmith: Maker of Sex

Wow it has been a long time since my last post. Truth be told I just don't have a ton of stuff to post about.

I have started classes but I've only been to two! That's because the other two are late start classes, which I start this coming week. Hopefully I'll be more busy then. I'm bored most of the time so I bug people to entertain me (ok, mostly just Kira). BUT! Once my other two classes start and once I FINALLY start my job (social security card should get to me next week some time) I'll be more busy and will have less time to be bored! Hurrah!

Status report of my classes so far:

Digita Art and Design: pretty basic stuff so far. We're just doing easy photoshop stuff that I already know, but I still find it very interesting because I'm actually learning HOW certain things work instead of just going "Ok, I know this works." It'll soon get more complex when we start with the design element of the class, but the teacher told us she wants to teach everyone the fundamentals first even though we pretty much should know it all. We're also going to be doing some animations in a few weeks... that sounds a little more difficult. The teacher, Ms. Jones, is incredibly nice, knowledgeable and fun to listen to. She likes me a lot for some reason... I don't really know why. That's a good thing though, who wants a teacher that doesn't like them? Rating for this class so far: A

Astronomy: one of my "fun" classes that I'm taking to:

a. fill up units. I need a minimum of 12 to stay on my Dad's (very cheap but good) health insurance
b. fill up time. I wanted to take at least 12 units. It's odd but I'm taking 4 classes, a total of 16 hours and it's only 12 units. At USC 4 classes would most likely be 16 units and anywhere from 12-16 hours.
c. because astronomy has always interested me. I would have taken it at USC but I already had fulfilled the GE category that astronomy was in with my physics class.

So far the class is rather humdrum. We're just discussing what space "is." We haven't gotten into all the cool types of celestial bodies and such, which is what I'm mostly looking forward to. I'm especially looking forward to BLACK HOLES! Those are awesome. This class isn't nearly as personal as my digital art class (digital art has about 12 people in it, this ones rounding out about 50) so the atmosphere is a little bit colder and more academic. Not to say my digital art class isn't academic, it just doesn't FEEL academic. Class rating: B-, hopefully upgraded to a high 'B' or an 'A' once we hit the more interesting stuff.

One last this about Miracosta as this post is becoming rather long: It feels more like school as well. The teachers are more passionate and the students actually want to be there! Something that happened a lot at USC was a student would arrive to class and try to find the best way to fall asleep without the professor noticing. After the first week of classes, student attendance rates had dropped a LOT. So far at Miracosta, every student still comes to class... well, almost every student. I know it's only the second, going on third, week, but maybe it's a good sign :)

Long story short: bored a lot, school is going well but there isn't enough of it, social security card lost/should get a new one soon, job soon, less bored soon.
